Obama: First President In History To Support Gay Marriage

Hebrews 13:4
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

In a country where 29 states have approved bans on same-sex marriage, and just a few months before election, I find it just a Tad odd that the current President would suddenly and publicly change his stance on gay marriage; from being opposed to openly for it.  Obama, having expressed he is a christian, not a bible believing one mind you, has taken things a step further and declared that the teachings of the bible helped him to ultimately come to his decision.

“when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it’s also the Golden Rule.”  Obama went onto say, “you know, treat others the way you would want to be treated.”

Well, we who know the truth, know that the bible does say that and it is truth imparted to believers.  Paul, in 1 Corinthians 6 imparts some truth as well:

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

That last part is what makes the difference…”And such were some of you, but you were washed.”
Sin is sin and we will never be done with it until we enter heaven.  However, struggling with sin and living IN sin are two different things and the bible is clear, homosexuality is prohibited by God and is declared a detestable, sinful thing.

Romans 1:26-27
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

The “Golden Rule” does not abolish all other commandments nor does it ever give an open door for unrighteous and unregenerate people to claim God is ok with my life of sexual immorality, or any other sin for that matter, because He would have me live in such a way that pleases me, myself, and I.

No, we are to live a life that is pleasing to God. We were created for His glory and one of our tasks in life as Heirs, is to discern what is pleasing to Him.

Ephesians 5:10
and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

Colossians 1:10
so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Wherever we are, we are to please Him… 2 Corinthians 5:9
“So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.”

We are commanded to be holy…

1 Peter 1:14-16
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

What I don’t get, however, is why believers get so up in arms about protecting the sanctity of marriage. I believe marriage was instituted by God and like anything else God has created, Satan will do his best to pervert it. We can vote against gay marriage and abortion all we want, picket the town hall meetings, ban things we morally and spirituality disagree with, state by state, but the main thing we have to remember is,

Romans 8:8
“Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Not only are they incapable, but they have absolutely no desire to please God. Even if homosexual, murderers, abortionists, rapists, and thieves say they believe there is A god, they lack saving faith and therefore lack salvation. You can have all the head knowledge in the world about God, and be able to quote the bible cover to cover from memory, but if there is no HEART conversion; if you are not born again, all the knowledge one can obtain in regards to God will not change their lives or their ability or desire to please almighty God.

We have to share with the lost, dying, hopeless, homosexual, murders, rapists, and thieves that
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1) Christ is their only hope at eternal life. No matter how many times we ban gay marriage and regardless of how many abortion clinics are shut down or are caused to lose federal funding, there will never be a heart change in those individuals if we just stop there. We have to share the life changing, supernatural power of the GOSPEL in order for true change to happen. If you ask me, I’d say lets share the gospel first, watch God transform their lives from the inside out, then we won’t have to worry about shutring down the clinics and voting to ban gay marriage because those who were once lost and hopeless will now long for and desire to please Him.

If we want to protect the sanctity of marriage, lets start by working on our own.

  1. I completly agree with you on this one!! I disagree with gay marriage 100%, and know that it is wrong. However, it is not my place to judge others or try to “ban” gay marriage. I feel we must love those living in this lifestyle in hopes of opening their eyes to what is right and true to God. I wonder what Jesus said when he encountered homosexual people. One would think he would declare what God said in the Old Testament, but also call out those committing adultery, addicted to pornography, lusting, and constantly divorcing as well. How can those who have no problem with high divorce rates and adultery call out homosexuals…..in my book it is all the same.

    • well, I think when we were young, whoever we looked to for spiritual guidance gave us some advice that went something like this…
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;” The very first of the psalms. or…
      1 Cor. 5:9 –
“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.” This is where some context got left out…
vs 10- 13 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler–not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.” People in the church don’t usually wear their sins on their sleeve though, otherwise, I don’t think anyone would be at church on Sunday.

  2. Completely changed my outlook on evangelizing those who are in and/or approve of homosexuality. You’re right. It doesn’t matter how much we ban, picket, or petition, if there is no heart change on the part of the unbelievers. I’d love to speak with your website manager or ministry director about bringing live love to our church. I’ve included my email and used the contact form. Look forward to hearing from you.
