Matthew 9:38 – “therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
We need to shorten the gap between instruction & obedience.
God’s word says “go into all the earth & preach the Gospel.” (mark 16:15) There’s nothing wrong with praying about this, but…
Think of it this way, if I were to tell my son Landen, (after he grows up a bit) that the trash truck is coming soon and he needs to collect all the trash around the house and get it to the cans outside so it can all get to the dump, but instead of taking care of the task immediately, Landen asks me:
- Where should I set the cans?
- What bags should I use?
- What time is the garbage truck coming?
- Are you sure you want me to do it and not someone else?
- Should I tie a knot in the tops of the bags or just twist them?
You can waste a lot of time praying about what method u should use when you’ve already got the call in front of you.
As believers, we do need to seek Godly counsel for many aspects of life. But God has given us the mind of Christ; His written and holy inspired scriptures so that we don’t have to sit and pray about every little decision we need to make throughout the day. God has created us with an amazing organ called the Brain.
THE HUMAN BRAIN
- Your brain consists of about 100 billion neurons.
- There are anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 synapses for each neuron.
- If you were to stretch them out, there are roughly 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the brain.
- Information can be processed as slowly as 0.5 meters/sec or as fast as 120 meters/sec (about 268 miles/hr).
The most powerful computing systems in the world are ranked by the total number of “petaflops” they can achieve. A single petaflop is equal to 1 quadrillion calculations per second — or 1,000 trillion operations. By comparison, IBM researchers have estimated that a single human brain can process 36.8 petaflops of data.
Now, taking all of that into consideration, it shouldn’t be too difficult for us to deduce that if God said, “GO,” that it’s time to go. Don’t waste time because of your own uncertainty.
Matthew 9:37 – Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
The biggest problem today for Christians, when it comes to evangelism, is that 61% of those “few” workers are stuck asking little kid questions:
“Well did He mean me?” “should I start with heaven or hell when I witness?” and “Well, I don’t have a passion for evangelism so that just isn’t my calling.”
If you have New Testament, born-again, Christ-follower faith, then you are most definitely included in the “disciple” category and all disciples are called to share the gospel.
2 Corinthians 3:12 – Since we have such a hope, we are very bold…
2 Cor. 5:19 – that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
Consider what Paul wrote about NOT sharing the gospel…
Acts 20:24 – But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus — the work of telling others the Good News about God’s wonderful kindness and love.
If you have been Born again; you’ve placed your faith in Christ alone as your only hope for salvation, then you are called to preach the gospel.
We find in one of the last books of the bible, this great advice about readiness:
“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 peter 3:15)
Are you ready?
